Sunday proved to be such a nice day off. I slept in, went shopping, had a late brunch at Hummus Place, then retreated back home to watch the NFL playoff games with friends. I enjoyed brunch so much that I snapped a few photos to share. Hummus Place is one of my favorite casual restaurants in NYC. Their hummus is the best around, and I love to order from their take-out menu after a tough workday or on any night I’m not feeling up to cooking. You may remember I featured the restaurant in Day 1 of my Healthy Eating Out Marathon last year.
For yesterday’s brunch, I ordered the Mediterranean Eggs. The dish comes with two organic eggs cooked over easy in a spicy tomato and pepper sauce, served on top of a toasted wheat pita bread. It came with a coffee or fresh orange juice, a mixed greens salad with tomato & cucumber, a small side of Labane cheese, and mushrooms or roasted potatoes. For $2 extra, you can make the orange juice a mimosa (which I did). For $11.95 ($13.95 w/ mimosa), that’s a great deal for brunch. The meal was so filling and homey, and it was exactly what I needed after walking around all day in freezing cold temps.
My other favorite items at Hummus Place are their mint tea (hot or iced cardamom tea with fresh mint leaves), hummus tahini, tabouli quinoa salad, and the butternut squash soup (seasonal). Last month I also had an amazing corn soup with a spicy kick. I love to see what fresh soups are on the specials menu. Yesterday was my first time going for brunch, but I’d love to go back to try the aubergine eggs or frittata.
Hummus Place has 5 locations in NYC, so if you’re here in the city, it’s a great cozy spot for vegetarian fare. For the best deal, try the lunch or dinner special (posted on their website under Menu > Specials).
