Agave nectar has received some serious heat lately. Some of the top nutrition experts have come out and said that it’s highly processed and just as dangerous to our health as high fructose corn syrup. I’ve read lots of great things about agave, and lots of scary things too, so naturally I was confused. Are you?
As with most products, all agave is not created equally. There are high-quality agave nectars out there, made with integrity, and there are low-quality brands that are likely sacrificing nutrition to save time and money. So, you have to do your research to find a good brand.
I know one thing. I enjoy the taste of agave as a sweetener and I find it extremely versatile. I use small amounts in drinks, shakes, desserts, etc. One of my favorite treats with agave is the raw chocolate bar called Simplicity from the company Gnosis Chocolate. Vanessa, the owner/creator of Gnosis Chocolate and fellow graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, recently wrote an informative report about agave nectar. She took the time to investigate the health claims of agave and even paid an in-person visit to her agave supplier in Guadalajara, Mexico to see exactly how it’s made.
So, let’s get informed! You can read Vanessa’s in-depth Report on Agave Nectar on the Gnosis website. She even provides a link buy the brand of agave that she trusts. Enjoy!
