4th of July Cocktails

by laurel on July 2, 2010

Happy 4th of July weekend! I know we’re all ready to kick back and have some fun. I’m celebrating with a few festive cocktails and wanted to share the recipes with you. I swung by the Union Square farmer’s market this afternoon and was inspired when I saw edible flowers and a ton of beautiful local-grown blueberries for sale. Whatever your plans are this 4th, I wish you a safe and happy holiday!

Pear Saketini

4 oz. pear juice, chilled
4 oz. unfiltered sake, chilled
Blueberries
1 red edible flower (optional)

Drop about 6-8 blueberries into the bottom of a martini glass. Combine the pear juice and sake into a cocktail shaker. Shake to mix and pour into the glass, on top of the blueberries. Garnish with a red edible flower. Tip: If you can’t find edible flowers at your local farmer’s market, you can garnish with a fresh strawberry or a skewer of raspberries.

Pomegranita

2 oz. silver tequila, chilled
4 oz. pomegranate juice, chilled
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
½ oz. agave nectar
Blueberries

Combine the tequila, pomegranate juice, lemon juice, and agave in a cocktail shaker. Shake to mix and pour into a martini glass or goblet. Garnish with a skewer of fresh blueberries. Tip: I use Patrón silver tequila, but you can use any high quality silver tequila you prefer.
