Wild Blueberries Loaded with Antioxidants

by laurel on May 27, 2010

This time of year is the perfect time to begin adding more berries to your diet. If you can get your hands on exotic berries like goji, açaí, or maqui berries, then go for it, because they have some of the highest antioxidant content on the planet. But blueberries are close behind…especially wild blueberries. I read in Women’s Health Magazine this month that one cup of wild blueberries has about 13,427 antioxidant compounds (that’s all the antioxidants you need in 1 day). Plus, wild blueberries have a more intense flavor than the cultivated berries do. Ref: Women’s Health Magazine, June 2010, p. 22.

You can find wild blueberries at farmer’s markets and in health food stores. I have good luck finding them in the freezer section at Whole Foods. When frozen, they are great to add to smoothies, oatmeal, or to add in berry desserts (like a fruit crisp).

I just wanted to share a great new health-conscious drink that I found! It’s called Picabi and can be found at http://www.picabi.com

I give it to my kids to bring to school for lunches, and my husband and I drink it every day.

I was just wondering if anyone else has tried Picabi?
