Review: RIPE Cocktail Mixers

by laurel on May 11, 2010

A few weeks ago I found out about Ripe All Natural Cocktail Mixers at an eco-friendly party in NYC. After tasting the delicious margarita mix, I knew I had to do a full review.

Ripe has three cocktail mixers: a Pure Squeezed Margarita Mixer, San Marzano Bloody Mary Mixer, and the Pure Squeezed Sour Mixer. Each is made from fresh juices and contains all natural agave sweetener. All the ingredients are natural and that means no chemicals, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, GMOs, flavorings, etc. If you’ve ever looked at the ingredient list of most cocktail mixers at the liquor store, they’re full of artificial flavors and chemicals. Yuck!

I love to make my own cocktails from scratch, but I was happy to try out Ripe’s fresh mixers. Ready-made cocktail mixes are super helpful when you need fast drinks that taste great. I definitely recommend these when you need yummy drinks on the fly.

Pure Squeezed Margarita Mixer (Pure squeezed lime juice, reverse osmosis filtered water, 100% organic agave nectar, pure squeezed orange juice.)
The margarita mix was definitely my favorite of the three. My boyfriend was also a big fan; he just couldn’t believe how yummy they were. We added Patron Silver Tequila to the margarita mix and garnished with lemon and lime. The drink was tart and refreshing with just a hint of sweetness. I really liked the mix of orange and lime juices together. They were absolutely delicious, and we wanted seconds.

Pure Squeezed Sour Mixer (Pure squeezed lemon juice, 100 percent organic agave nectar, reverse osmosis filtered water.)
The sour mixer was definitely sour, but I instantly noticed how fresh and light it was (compared to most syrup-y sour mixes I’ve tasted in the past). I mixed mine with Ketel One Vodka, San Pellegrino sparkling water, and a garnish of lemon. Another day I tried adding a splash of concord grape juice and loved it even more. This is definitely the most versatile mixer of the 3 and would be great for making all different kinds of martinis.

San Marzano Bloody Mary Mixer (Premium imported San Marzano tomatoes, pure squeezed celery juice, pure squeezed lemon juice, certified balsamic vinegar, fresh horseradish, grey Celtic sea salt, spices.)
I have to admit…I’m not a bloody mary drinker, but I have a sneaking suspicion that bloody mary lovers will really enjoy this one. I tried it out with Ketel One Vodka and a garnish of celery. The mix was super spicy (which I liked) and I thought it was cool that it contained balsamic vinegar and fresh celery juice! It’s a very thick blend, which Ripe has an explanation for: “We’ve done this so when some of the ice melts in your cocktail, your RIPE Bloody Mary will stay mad fresh and not turn into a thin bland mess.” Good idea. The mix was very fresh and I could see lots of visible spices and horseradish floating in there.

In summary, I am really impressed with Ripe’s mixers and will certainly try them again. Those margaritas were crazy good. Their site even has a growing section of drink recipes, such as Blueberry Hard Lemonade with fresh blueberries. Yum!

Want to try them for yourself? Ripe cocktail mixers are available for purchase in their online store. You can also find them in the refrigerated juice section at Whole Foods Market stores in the Northeast US.
