Farmer’s Market – 97th Street NYC

by laurel on May 5, 2010

I went to pick up groceries at the Uptown Whole Foods last Friday, and I came across a small farmer’s market right around the corner, on 97th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam. I’m surprised at how many farmer’s markets are in Manhattan, because I wasn’t expecting to see so many when I moved up here. I loved that this one was right next to the big Whole Foods. This way you can support your local NY producers by picking up fresh produce, meat, dairy, or breads on the way into the store. Though I wanted to note that I have been more and more impressed with the amount of local and seasonal foods offered at Whole Foods’ stores.

Anyways, the 97th Street market had a nice selection of fresh greens, asparagus, radishes, baked bread, fresh flowers, and one table each of grass-fed beef, cheese & eggs, and fresh seafood. It didn’t hurt that it was a beautiful day out too.

Here’s a few pics from my accidental trip. My favorite thing I saw at the market was baby radishes. The tiny bright red bulbs were just so cute and bright. I bet they’d be delicious in a summer salad.

The 97th Street Greenmarket is open on Fridays from 8am-2pm. For more details on this farmer’s market, click here.

Nothing like fresh produce from a Farmer’s Market. And as for the radishes, I recently had guacamole from a nice restaurant with radishes on top. It was delightful!
