Live Longer on the Mediterranean Diet

A new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that eating a Mediterranean diet may help you live longer. I’ve talked about the Mediterranean diet on this blog before, but in case you didn’t know, the diet primarily consists of eating more fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish, whole grains, beans, and less saturated fats found in meat and dairy.

The study found that people ate Mediterranean diets were much less likely to die in the five years after the survey was conducted. Women who primarily ate a Mediterranean diet reduced their mortality by 22%, their risk of death from heart disease by 21%, and risk of death from cancer by 14%. The percentages for women were similar for men.
