Steam It!

You’ve probably heard that steaming vegetables is more nutritious than boiling them because fewer nutrients are lost in the water.  But, some recent research is showing that steamed vegetables are also better than raw vegetables.

New research from Italy’s University of Parma found that steamed broccoli is better for you than raw broccoli. Steaming this veggie “makes more of its cancer-fighting antioxidants available to your body.” (Self Magazine, May 2008, p. 182)

This is welcome news! While I like my veggies raw and crunchy, it’s nice to know that we can have the variety of steaming them and still get the nutrition. Thanks for sharing…especially the how-to video.
