Hydrate with Milk

by laurel on November 26, 2007

Women’s Health Magazine reports that a study from the British Journal of Nutrition found milk hydrates your body better than water or sports drinks.  Researchers measured fluid retention in volunteers who rode stationary bikes.  After five hours, people who drank milk retained 69% of fluid while water drinkers and powerade drinkers retained only 36% and 38%, respectively.  Lead researcher Susan Shirreffs, Ph. D. said that potassium and sodium in milk may help your cells retain water more effectively.

Always make sure you drink enough water, but if you need fast, effective hydration, reach for a glass of milk.

Hi Laurel,
A few friends and I put together a new website where members can get free fitness, nutrition, and weight loss advice from personal trainers, dietitians, and other experts. I’d really appreciate if you could give us some feedback about the site and some ideas for new features we should add. It’s http://www.FitCapital.com. Thanks in advance for your input!
