Toast to This!

Cooking Light Magazine says the antioxidants found in wine vary with the year and region. However, two nutritional benefits of wine remain constant:

Potassium – helps maintain the body’s fluid balance
Alcohol - may help raise HDL (good) cholesterol, reduce blood clots, and lower blood pressure

Drink your favorite wine in moderation (that’s no more than 1-2 glasses/day) and check out the stats on red and white wine below (5 ounce portion).

Red wine – 120 calories, 180 mg potasssium, 15 g alcohol
White wine – 118 calories, 101 mg potassium, 14.6 g alcohol

That is nice to know red wine does have some health benefits. It is always reassuring when you find out the foods you love actually are healthy. It definitely seems just sticking with the “whole foods” mentality of eating foods that are real and not factory process is the way to go.
