Cooking Light Magazine reports that foods high in lignans (estrogen-like compounds) may reduce the risk of post-menopausal breast cancer. A study from the National Institute of Health and Medical Research in France showed that post-menopausal women with high lignan intake (1,395+ µg/day) were 17% less likely to develop breast cancer than women with the lowest intake.
Lead Researcher Marina Touillaud, PhD said, “flaxseed is the richest source of lignans.” Touillaud said some other good sources are nuts, cabbage, green beans, whole-grain products, strawberries, apricots, peaches, and pears.
