Food of the Day: Yogurt

by laurel on August 6, 2007

Yogurt is one of my favorite foods because there are so many reasons it’s good for you! Eating yogurt offers many powerful health benefits including:

  • Stronger immunity
  • Cancer and osteoporosis prevention
  • Improved lactose intolerance and allergies
  • Improved digestion, helping the body to break down food and synthesize vitamins
  • Help in treating and preventing ulcers and vaginal yeast infections
  • Good source of protein, calcium, and B vitamins
  • Reduction of infant food allergies and eczema
  • Elevated mood

The probiotics or “friendly bacteria” in yogurt are responsible for most of the nutritional benefits. The word probiotics is actually derived from the Greek word meaning “for life”.

Note: When you buy yogurt, look for organic and low sugar varieties. My favorite is Stonyfield Farms.
