Healthy Summer Snacks

BBQ parties usually thrive with hot dogs, burgers, chicken wings, ribs, chips, and cookies. Don’t get me wrong, these are all tasty…but we all know they have to be eaten in moderation. HealthCastle.com came up with their top five healthy snack ideas you can bring to a summer party or BBQ.

  1. Fresh berries
  2. Haagen-Dazs’s Raspberry Sorbet & Vanilla Yogurt Bars
  3. Trail mix (homemade with whole-grain cereal and nuts)
  4. Kashi’s TLC Crunchy Granola Bar
  5. Popcorn

My favorite healthy summer BBQ food is tomato, cucumber, onion, and avocado (TCOA) salad. Check out my easy recipe here.

Or, how about grilled vegetable/fruit skewers? Cut up big chunks of onion, green/red/yellow bell peppers, portobello mushrooms, pineapple, etc. Skewer them and place on the grill when the meats are almost done.

    Good post…

I have been using skewers alot this summer for both meats and vegetables. I like to marinate the food for a while first and then put it on the grill. I also sometimes just dump a bunch of largely chopped vegetables on the grill and cook until tender and they come out really good. Check out this summer cooking article from the NY Times as well for some cool ideas:
