Boost Your Nutrient Density
CNN and Cooking Light Magazine talked to nutrition experts about how to improve your health by eating a “nutrient dense” diet. Here are some tips the experts gave to boost your nutrient density:
- Add apples, mango, or diced pear to the top of a salad
- Top chicken or fish with a fruit salsa
- Mix dried apricots into yogurt or cereal
- Add shredded carrots to classic tomato sauce
- Grill a steak with peppers, onions, and celery
- Add a small handful of nuts to salads or cereal
- Try whole wheat pasta or brown/wild/long-grain rice
- Spread peanut butter on apple slices
A few of my favorite additions:
- Add avocado slices to a basic ham or turkey sandwich
- Add fresh fruit to plain yogurt (instead of eating flavored yogurt with some fruit and added sugar)
- Spread natural peanut butter on a waffle instead of butter or syrup (try GoLean blueberry waffles)
