Boost Your Nutrient Density

CNN and Cooking Light Magazine talked to nutrition experts about how to improve your health by eating a “nutrient dense” diet. Here are some tips the experts gave to boost your nutrient density:

  • Add apples, mango, or diced pear to the top of a salad
  • Top chicken or fish with a fruit salsa
  • Mix dried apricots into yogurt or cereal
  • Add shredded carrots to classic tomato sauce
  • Grill a steak with peppers, onions, and celery
  • Add a small handful of nuts to salads or cereal
  • Try whole wheat pasta or brown/wild/long-grain rice
  • Spread peanut butter on apple slices

A few of my favorite additions:

  • Add avocado slices to a basic ham or turkey sandwich
  • Add fresh fruit to plain yogurt (instead of eating flavored yogurt with some fruit and added sugar)
  • Spread natural peanut butter on a waffle instead of butter or syrup (try GoLean blueberry waffles)
