What Do Ya Know About Vitamin C?
We all know Vitamin C helps keep our immune system strong, but it also helps absorb iron, supports development of our teeth, gums, and bones, and provides antioxidant protection from cell damage.
Think beyond oranges. Publix’s Green Wise magazine reports that there are other healthy foods that pack a serious Vitamin C punch. The RDA for healthy adults is 90 mg for men and 75 mg for women. (Ref: Publix “Green Wise” magazine, May 2007, p. 24)
- Guava (1 whole): 125 mg
- Green peppers (1 cup sliced): 120 mg
- Papaya (1 medium sized): 95 mg
- Broccoli (1 cup raw): 81 mg
- Orange: (1 whole): 70 mg
- Collard greens (1 cup cooked, drained): 35 mg
