Self Magazine surveyed chefs, “foodies”, and people who track trends to find out what the next superfoods are. Here are the stats on the three they came up with:
- Ají amarillo – a hot pepper with lots of capasaicin, a chemical compound that may kill cancer cells and increase your metabolism. You can buy it dried or powdered at a Latin market.
- Acerola – a tart fruit (looks like a cherry) with the highest vitamin C content. Look out for acerola in smoothies, sorbets, and juice blends.
- Sunchoke – also called Jerusalem artichoke, it has four times as much iron as a potato. Look for it at a health food store or upscale grocer.
