Study Shows Olive Oil May Prevent Stomach Ulcers and Cancer

by laurel on April 12, 2007

Nutraingredients-usa.com reports that research from the Spanish Institute de la Grasa and the University Hospital of Valme showed that extra virgin olive oil can protect your body from H. pylori bacteria which cause gastritis and peptic ulcer disease in millions of people. H. pylori is also known to cause some types of gastric cancer. Researchers found that the polyphenols in olive oil can diffuse into gastic juices and remain stable in your stomach for hours, having an antibacterial effect against the H. pylori.

Studies on olive oil have found several other health benefits including improving cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of coronary heart disease. To enjoy the health benefits of olive oil and olives without gaining weight, make sure to watch your portions and add a little at a time to foods to avoid over saturating your meals.
