Women’s Health Magazine reports that a study from the journal Nature shows that some red wines contain a large amount of a heart-healthy antioxidant called procyanidin. The antioxidant, found in grape seeds, helps to keep your blood vessels open. Study author Roger Corder, Ph.D. says that “tannic, traditional reds are best, while lighter, smoother reds have much lower levels of procyanidins.” Dr. Corder recommends red wines that come from southwest France, Italian Barolos and Barbarescos, and tannat wines from Uruguay.
Women’s Health recommends visiting the local wine shop and asking for any wine with “firm tannins.”
