CNN’s Healthy Heart Secrets Include 3 Food Tips

by laurel on March 1, 2007

CNN reports that Health Magazine came up with nine strategies to help you take care of your heart. One of the tricks is to “get milk”. A study from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute showed that people who ate three or more servings a day of milk, yogurt, or cheese had lower systolic blood pressure than those who consumed only half a serving (as long as they didn’t consume a lot of saturated fat).

Another strategy is to drink pomegranate juice. A National Academy of Sciences study showed that pomegranate juice reduces cholesterol plaque buildup and increases nitric oxide production (nitric oxide helps reduce arterial plaque).

The list also said to add dark soy sauce to food to get a load of healthy antioxidants that fight heart-damaging substances. However, look for lower-salt versions because high salt intake can lead to high blood pressure.
